Activists who spilled soup on Van Gogh's painting received strict punishment.

In the United Kingdom, Just Stop Oil movement activists were sentenced for spilling soup on Vincent Van Gogh's painting «Sunflowers» at the National Gallery in London. Both activists were sentenced to prison. Phoebe Plummer received two years and three months, and Anna Holland - 20 months. They were also given a ban on criminal behavior for three years.
In court, Plummer stated that she would accept any sentence with a smile, as she acted consciously.
Conscience is not a mitigating factor. The actions you took were extreme, disproportionate, and criminally idiotic- said Judge Christopher Hehir.
The Just Stop Oil group did not agree with the sentence and stated that the judge was biased and dismissed all legal objections.
GreenPiece and Liberate Tate, environmental campaign groups, wrote a letter calling for the release of the activists. They noted that the activists' action fits the artistic canon, as art can be iconoclastic.
