ISW analysts named the period when Ukrainian fighters may remove all North Korean troops from Kursk.


According to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), by mid-April 2025, the entire North Korean military contingent in the Kursk region could be killed or injured. The number of casualties among North Korean soldiers reached 3,800 in the Kursk region by early 2025.
In November 2024, it was announced that North Korean forces were participating in combat operations in the Kursk region. It later became known that 12,000 troops had been deployed to the region. According to the report, casualties among North Korean soldiers continue to rise, and by mid-April 2025, they may be killed or injured.
The National Intelligence Service of South Korea (NIS) reported that 300 North Korean soldiers have already died in the Kursk region, while another 2,700 were injured.
It is also worth mentioning that two North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces during the fighting in the Kursk region. One of the captives wishes to stay in Ukraine while the other wishes to return to North Korea.
