Grandfather traveled 1000 km to save his granddaughter: how the girl has changed.

The story of the Platov family shocked all of Ukraine, which we learned about thanks to a video where the grandfather was rocking his granddaughter Isabella. The family was forced to leave their village Stepove in the Zaporizhzhia region due to occupation at the beginning of 2022. 84-year-old Valentin undertook a difficult journey to Ivano-Frankivsk, where volunteers found new housing for the family. The family is currently doing well, as reported by the relative of the Platovs, Yuriy.
According to Yuriy, the grandfather is holding up well, although he is a bit ill due to being in a cold basement. He diligently takes care of his grandchildren.
Yuriy was unable to show his face due to being on occupied territory but shared photos of his four-year-old daughter, who slept in her grandfather's arms three years ago.
The story of the Platov family
Grandfather Valentin and his relatives had to leave their native village Stepove, located 50 kilometers from Zaporizhzhia, due to occupation. Enemy troops arrived here at the beginning of spring and began shelling Ukrainian settlements.
Grandfather Valentin led his son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren away from the shelling. This trip became the longest of his life. Valentin recounted it in a comment to TSN. He shared that he was very worried during the trip because he feared their car would come under enemy fire.
The family initially went to Zaporizhzhia and stayed at a local center for displaced persons, where the video was shot. Valentin commented on this moment, saying: 'A child is a child. She needs to be rocked to be happy and healthy. That’s why I was rocking her so that she would never see what I have seen.'
After this, Valentin traveled 1000 kilometers and arrived in Ivano-Frankivsk, where volunteers were raising funds for new housing for the family. After four months, the Platovs successfully found a new home in a small village in Prykarpattia. They received four rooms, a summer kitchen, a barn, and a granary.
The family is incredibly grateful for such a find, as they previously had a large farm in the Zaporizhzhia region. Now they dream of restoring their old family farm. Valentin shared that he misses the delicious watermelons that grew there before.
It is worth noting that in 2022, a video of an elderly man rocking his granddaughter in a center for displaced persons went viral.
