The funeral of the Pope will be held unconventionally.

According to new rules, the funeral of the Pope will be conducted differently in accordance with the updated version of the document 'Order of the Roman Pontiff's Funeral'. The Pope approved it in November 2024.
Pope Francis changed the rituals to better express the Church's faith in the Risen Christ. They excluded some outdated elements, for example, three coffins will no longer be used for burial. The body will also be displayed in an open coffin so that the faithful can pay their respects.
The updated rite should emphasize that the funeral of the pontiff is the funeral of a shepherd and a disciple of Christ, not a secular leader
Cardinals will determine the date of the funeral by gathering in a consistory to discuss further procedures.
Journalists believe that the funeral of the Pope will take place on Saturday, April 26, but this is still just a conjecture.
Francis noted in his spiritual testament that he wishes to be buried in the Papal Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He desired his remains to rest in his beloved basilica, where he prayed before and after each trip.
Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at the age of 89. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed, but it is known that he suffered from various ailments, including bilateral pneumonia.
After the death of the Pope, cardinals from around the world will gather in the Sistine Chapel to hold a conclave, during which they will elect a new pontiff.
