Water level in Zaporizhzhia NPP cooling pond has decreased: what happened.

The water level in the cooling pond at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) continues to decrease due to the heat. This was reported by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi.
The IAEA Director General noted that despite all reactors remaining in cold shutdown, the presence of this water is important for the nuclear safety of the ZNPP.
«Over the past few weeks, IAEA experts at the plant have observed a continuous decrease in the water level in the plant’s cooling pond. If this trend continues, ZNPP personnel have confirmed that soon pumping water from the pond will become problematic. Maintaining the water level in the reservoir is complicated by the hot summer weather», – Grossi noted.
It should be recalled that specialists from the International Atomic Energy Agency have recorded explosions and gunfire near the Zaporizhzhia NPP over the past week.
Earlier, due to shelling and a fire, the external radiation monitoring station near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) was destroyed.
Notably, the resolution «Safety and Security of Ukraine's Nuclear Facilities, including the Zaporizhzhia NPP» initiated by Ukraine was approved by the United Nations General Assembly.
