Russian Syrian Mercenaries in Ukraine: Intelligence Explained Why They Have Decreased.

Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Russian side has been actively recruiting foreigners, particularly from poor countries, to whom Putin promises citizenship and decent pay for their war crimes against the Ukrainian people. However, according to the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, most mercenaries from Syria will never return home.
According to intelligence, Syrian mercenaries are one of the most costly resources in Russia's war against Ukraine. They are often sent to the front lines where they suffer significant losses.
Intelligence claims that in most cases when mercenaries request evacuation, Russian military leaders simply ignore their requests. This happened in the summer of 2024 near Svatove in the Luhansk region, when Ukrainian artillery left only a few of the 14 mercenaries alive. All evacuation requests were ignored by the Russians.
According to intelligence representatives, one of the participants in this clash was Syrian Mohammed Mansur, who disappeared after the battle. His unit is considered missing.
Syrian public channels sometimes spread information about the fate of their compatriots who are fighting against Ukraine. Recently, a report was spread about the death of Syrian Wahid Mursal Al-Shibli, who had obtained Russian citizenship. His unit was destroyed, and he died without receiving assistance.
Intelligence claims that Russia has organized a scheme with travel agencies to recruit Syrians for the war against Ukraine - initially offering them work as security guards in Russian oil provinces, and then attracting them with higher salaries for participating in combat.
Intelligence notes that due to unprepared assaults and the thoughtlessness of the Russian military leadership, Syrians and other mercenaries often die. Almost all attackers become victims of Ukrainian artillery, infantry, and drones. According to intelligence, the number of Syrians in the war in Donbas has significantly decreased.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian unit "Bears," belonging to a private military company and consisting mainly of mercenaries, returned from Burkina Faso to defend the Kursk region from the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It was also previously reported that near Vovchansk, a mercenary from Sri Lanka who fought on the side of the Russians against Ukraine was captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
