During an informal meeting of the UN Security Council in Arria format, intended to discuss Russia's violations of international humanitarian law regarding Ukrainian prisoners of war and detained civilians, the commission reported this. Over the past two years, the commission has uncovered many instances of abuse and torture by the Russian authorities both in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in Russia. Such violations lead to serious physical and psychological harm to the captured individuals. Officials from the Russian Federation confirmed that they received instructions from higher authorities regarding the treatment of Ukrainian prisoners - harshly and ruthlessly.
According to witness testimonies, prisoners of war and detained civilians were subjected to interrogations using beatings, electric shocks, and asphyxiation. Additionally, the commission recorded instances of sexual violence, including rape, electrical violence on sexual organs, castration, and mutilation.
The investigative commission confirmed severe physical and psychological repercussions for the captured individuals. These tortures can lead to long-lasting problems and even disabilities.
