Lost the scalpel. In the UK, a doctor operated on a patient with a knife previously used to cut fruit.

Surgeon used army knife for operation
A surgeon from Brighton, UK, decided to use a Swiss army knife to open a patient's chest as he couldn't find a sterile scalpel. This information was reported by the BBC.
It is noted that earlier, during lunch, the doctor had used this knife to cut fruit.
The hospital claims that the operation was not so critical as to make such an «extreme» decision.
Although the patient survived, the surgeon's colleagues stated that his actions were questionable, and the claims about the absence of a scalpel were very strange.
Professor Graham Poston, a former consultant surgeon, stated: «I am amazed and horrified. Firstly, the knife is a penknife, therefore not sterile. Secondly, it's not a working tool. Thirdly, there should be other instruments».
Cases of medical negligence in English hospitals
This happened in the context of an investigation into at least 105 cases of possible medical negligence at the University Hospitals of the Sussex National Health Service Trust.
In two months, one surgeon performed three low-risk operations, after which all three patients died. The hospital conducted a series of internal investigations and concluded that the patients received "poor care".
Tragedies following cosmetic procedures
A 33-year-old mother of five died in the UK after a buttock lift cosmetic procedure. This procedure cost her 2.5 thousand pounds sterling and was performed by an unqualified doctor without a medical background.
Also, a 62-year-old man died almost two months after receiving a genetically modified pig kidney.
