Bill 9665 states that there are some points that can be interpreted in different ways, in particular, the concepts of household storage of firewood and the use of illegal timber for commercial purposes are not clarified.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Ukrinform by the director of the state enterprise 'Forests of Ukraine' Yuri Bolohovets.
He believes that private sawmills that buy timber from illegal loggers should bear greater responsibility. Bolohovets emphasizes that this is indeed a serious problem, as even after the perpetrators are detained, courts often release them.
There are also situations where people cut down old gardens, or someone has cut down unnecessary trees in their yard.
'It should not be the case that in such situations people are considered offenders based on formal grounds. Therefore, the position of the President's Office is quite justified. We hope for the approval of the amended document,' added Bolohovets.
