In the evening, the Ukrainian energy system faces a shortage of electricity. This was stated by Yuri Boyko, advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and a member of the Supervisory Board of NEC 'Ukrenergo', at a briefing, as reported by Ukrinform.

As Boyko noted, the sharp drop in temperature and bad weather conditions have led to an increased load on the energy system. However, the available equipment currently allows for control of the situation. The energy deficit in the system is compensated by imports.

'By using internal resources and actively importing, the energy workers balance the energy system to avoid possible restrictions. Therefore, there is a deficit in the evening hours; this is an objective reality,' Boyko stated.

He also reported that since April 1, the maximum import capacity of electricity from Europe is 1.7 GW, but this volume is not fully utilized.

'At night and during periods of active solar generation, there are hours when Ukraine exports excess electricity,' explained the member of the Supervisory Board.

Boyko emphasized that energy workers are doing everything possible to avoid electricity outages during peak consumption in the summer.

He also reminded that the establishment of a disconnection schedule in the summer of 2024 was conditioned by simultaneous work on the repair of power plants and addressing the consequences of Russian cyberattacks.

'To date, energy workers have developed measures by which it is possible to avoid such a scenario. Repairs of equipment are planned to minimize periods of shortage, and their sizes do not exceed the maximum import capacity,' Boyko added.

It should be reminded that the Ministry of Energy responded to rumors about a possible increase in electricity tariffs.
